The Third Annual National School Conference on International Youth Exchange was held at the Marriott City Center Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event was co-sponsored by
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Conference participants contributed valuable feedback on the quality of the speakers and content of each session. Participants rated the sessions on "How Youth Exchange Programs Work" and "How To" For School Administrators" very highly and school administrators who attended the conference expressed their appreciation for including these topics. Several student speakers and host families shared their meaningful youth exchange experiences with the group. Particular praise was also given to the keynoters Dr. Peter Gorman, Dr. June Atkinson and Rita Golden Gelman who were featured in the opening plenary and luncheon, respectively.
During the Saturday Luncheon, CSIET Board Chair, John Doty, presented the 2010 Global Classroom Awards. Representatives from the two winning schools, Saint Edwards School (Vero Beach, FL) and Lodi High School (Lodi, WI) spoke about the efforts of each school to ensure that international youth exchange is a common practice within their communities and how they worked to accomplish this goal.
